Boost Processor Performance with a Zalman CPU Fan and Heatsink

When you install a Zalman CPU fan with heatsink, it regulates your computer’s internal temperature. This boosts performance and prevents overheating.

The fan is designed to spin and cool your processor and, if the fins are large enough, it may also cool an expanded area around the CPU, possibly even the rest of your motherboard. The heatsink absorbs heat inside your case, then releases it from the metal and out of the computer case, usually through a vent.

Each one is designed for a certain level of performance. Fan speed plays a part, and so do these features:

• 2-ball and 2-fan systems: This provides spinning power at speeds from about 1300 RPM to 2600 RPM. Some double-fan CPU coolers allow you to pull air into the computer case and then back out through a vent on your computer.
• PWM speed cycling: Some CPU coolers have this system, which speeds up the fan blades as the temperature rises above 70 degrees Fahrenheit. When the temperature drops to below 60 degrees Fahrenheit, the blades slow down to about half the speed.
• Low noise or silent: This provides stabilized system performance without causing much noise. This is helpful when in a room where you need quiet or if you are using your computer to record audio and video.
• Heatpipes: These typically add to the functionality of a heatsink or sometimes are constructed in a cooler as a stand-alone part. Usually made of copper, they work with the heatsink to pull heat from the CPU for rapid dissipation. Some cooling fans have three or four heatpipes for extended cooling power.

You can use these Zalman devices in most brands, including Dell, Intel, and Asus, among others. They are typically compatible with Intel or AMD socket systems, but they may possibly be used for a variety of others. They come in assorted shapes and sizes for fitting into different motherboard configurations.

These lights have some aesthetic value, and people often use them to add flair to their towers. To some extent, the brightness of the lights could clue you in as to how fast your fans are spinning. These typically are for the area around your motherboard, and Zalman places them on the fronts, sides, or back of your tower case if you have a desktop computer. You might see some laptops that also have them as well, but they usually are used with larger gaming machines.
