The Many Faces of Volkswagen Cars and Trucks
Car buyers may not be familiar with the rich history of Volkswagen. First founded during World War II as a state-owned company "for the people." The changing of hands would soon occur in Germany, and by 1959, Volkswagen began selling its famous "Beetle" in America. A commercial success because of its eclectic design, cars and trucks such as the VW Bus and the the Karmann Ghia would soon follow. Since its humble beginnings in the US as the company that manufactures Beetles, Volkswagen today offers a complete line or cars, trucks, and other vehicles perfect for daily driving, family trips, and even racing.
Vintage ModelsSome car drivers love the vintage Volkswagen models, made up through the early 1980s. Some of the most iconic models released include:
- The VW Beetle (classic) - actually manufactured from 1938 through 2003
- Karmann Ghia - made through the 1950s and 1970s
- Scirocco - a sporty little model that was quite popular during the 1980s
- Rabbit - compact car very popular during the 1970s and 1980s
- Cabriolet - the 1970s/1980s convertible version of the Rabbit
Some of Volkswagens most appreciated models are still being manufactured today in some way, shape, or form. For example, the Jetta is one of VWs most popular vehicles. Other present-day models to consider include:
- Tiguan - The Tiguan is VWs version of an SUV (sport utility vehicle) and/or crossover
- Passat - The Passat is a slightly larger and with more options than the Jetta, this is a wonderful daily commuter or family car
- GTI - Perhaps the most sporty of all of the VW vehicles. This car is great not only for professional racing, but also simply for driving to work. (Also known as the Golf GTI)
- Atlas - Another SUV vehicle; this one is smaller and more of a crossover type.
- Touareg - This is VWs luxury line, offering coupes, sedans, and sport utility vehicles.
- Beetle - This car has seen several inceptions throughout the years. While the classic version and the reboot are out of production, the new Beetle is just as fun to drive as its predecessors.
- CC - This is, as of 2018, VWs mid-size sedan.
When it comes to overall car buying, there are a few attributes that helps Volkswagen stand out from among the rest.
- Affordability. When it comes to import cars, some of them come with a hefty price tag. VW has always been in an economical, affordable range, allowing everyone access to a German import car.
- Parts Availability. Some import cars can be tough to fix, with hard-to-find parts. Because of VWs popularity throughout the years, everything from NOS (new old stock) parts to brand new ones are easy to find.
- Fun to Drive. While VW offers many SUV or family-friendly models, most models have durable, efficient handling, making them fun to drive even for a daily driver.
