Custom Shirt Services

You don’t have to be a Parsons graduate or a contestant on “Project Runway” to design a trendy t-shirt line. It’s not difficult to prepare a shirt print run based on your own creative ideas. In addition to t-shirts, you can design and sell sweatshirts, jackets, pullovers, aprons, or any other article of clothing.

How do you design a custom t-shirt?

If you want your custom t-shirt line to be a hit, it has to be unique. Your shirts must either be distinguished by an unusual, eye-catching graphic or by a catchy phrase. Graphics can include photographs or drawings.

Here are some tips for preparing artwork you want to have printed on the t-shirts you’re proposing to sell.

  • Color scheme: Choose the color scheme for your shirts first. Limiting the number of colors you’re using in your shirts will allow you to keep tabs on the number of pieces of mesh that must be used in your print run. Try to streamline your design so that it can be done with one to three colors. Remember that you can incorporate the underlying color of the apparel into your graphic.
  • Pantone colors: Most printers use the Pantone color book as a reference when they’re duplicating colors. If you want to ensure an exact color match between your design and the printer’s run, you should use Pantone colors in your design.
  • Vector formats: If you want your artwork to scale correctly to various sizes, create your graphics in a vector format. Raster formats may become blurry or pixelate when you try to increase their dimensions.
What materials are used for screen printing a t-shirt?

Screen printing is one of the easiest ways to create t-shirts. It involves making a simple stencil and using mesh to shield the parts of the garment that will not be dyed. The following materials are used to print custom t-shirts:

  • A screen: Screens with 43T mesh generally produce the best results with this printing process.
  • A squeegee
  • Colored inks
  • Paper
  • Masking tape
How should you care for a custom t-shirt?

Custom t-shirts require special attention if you want their designs to continue looking great. Make sure to turn your shirts inside out when you wash them to reduce fading and piling.

Choose the cold water cycle on your washing machine. Most t-shirts are manufactured from cotton, and cotton will shrink if it comes into contact with warm water. Some of the dye on the shirt may wash out, particularly if the shirt is new, so only wash your shirt with similar colors. Never use bleach and make sure you’re using a very mild detergent.

Drying the t-shirt in a dryer may also cause the t-shirt to shrink, so it is best to hang the shirt on a line and let it air dry. If you need to iron the shirt, make sure the shirt is still turned inside out and use the very lowest setting on your iron.
