Panasonic 1080i Televisions

Panasonic high-definition televisions, or HDTVs for short, are designed with creative technology, have decades of industry experience, and offer clear picture quality. Features include HD resolution and slim, streamlined packages. Most Panasonic HDTVs offer advanced picture technology, ease-of-use, and flexibility.

What is HDTV?

HDTV, or high-definition television, is a type of television format that broadcasts digitally. Because of its digital format, the resolution of these televisions is higher, which results in images on the screen that are less pixelated and have a higher degree of fidelity because of the high count of tiny pixels. The resolution for these televisions range in display from 720p to 1080i.

What are 1080i and 1080p?

1080i and 1080p are modes of display offered by your HDTVs. The highest resolution achieved by both types of TVs is 1920x1080. For Panasonic 1080i televisions, interlaced fields are used to generate frames on the TV. Televisions that are 1080p use a progressive scan system, which uses full frames to create video. Most HDTV broadcast stations use native 1080i signals for their programming.

Some HDTV sources that use full 1080p televisions include PCs and high-quality digital cameras that record video. As such, uncompressed 1080p video takes up a lot of data storage space because of the enhanced quality.

The process of de-interlacing that takes place on 1080p TVs when watching 1080i signals is done automatically.

What is 720p?

The 720p resolution is 1280x720 and is broadcast at 60 frames per second. This makes 720p the appropriate resolution for fast-motion programs. The lower pixel count provided by 720p allows TV networks to broadcast at a higher frame rate. This is important to some television programs, particularly sports, where the higher frame rate and progressive scan used by 720p gives very smooth motion.

What is a 1080i HDTV?

This standard refers to the 1080i standard, which is 1920x1080. These numbers refer to the number, or density, of pixels shown on the screen, corresponding to the screen's width and height, respectively. The additional notation of 'i' or 'p' found at the end of common displays is not related to the screen's resolution. It is meant to signify how the image itself is generated. 1080i displays use interlaced fields to create pictures. 1080p displays use a progressive scan method of display.

Is cable or satellite required to view HDTV displays?

In the United States, you do not need to subscribe to a cable or satellite service to receive high definition signals since many networks already broadcast in that format. However, your television does require a tuner to decipher the signals that are emitted by these networks.
