Nalgene Water Bottles

Nalgene Water Bottles are some of the most iconic water bottles on the market today. Made of BPA-free Tritan, an extremely durable and hard-wearing plastic, many Nalgene bottles feature a wide mouth to make adding ice to water or other drinks extremely easy. Water bottles made by Nalgene are very popular with people subject their water bottle to a lot of use, such as those who carry a water bottle with them every day or those who enjoy outdoor pursuits.

What is the standard Nalgene bottle size?

Nalgene bottles come in many different sizes. The most commonly seen size of this water bottle, however, is 32 ounces, or 1L. These provide about half the water your body needs in a day, so they are efficient at reducing trips to the water fountain or capable of handling long hiking or other athletic trips. The wide mouth also enables Nalgene to fit many water filters.

  • Silo Water Bottle: 48 oz

  • N-Gen Water Bottle: 24 oz
  • On The Fly Water Bottle: 20 oz

What are Nalgenes made of?

All Nalgene bottles are made from Tritan. Tritan is a copolyester plastic material that is free of BPA and other harmful chemicals. It is extremely tough and durable, and provides long-lasting product integrity. The caps of the standard bottles are made of Teflon, another extremely durable plastic that Nalgene uses in order to ensure long-lasting use.

In addition, all Nalgenes are BPA-free. BPA (or bisphenol A) is a chemical that is used in some highly durable polycarbonate plastics. Unfortunately, BPA has been linked to negative health effects and has been shown to leach into food and drink that it is contact with, which is a concern in water bottles. Tritan is a safe BPA substitute. For this reason, no Nalgene products are made with BPA, and are free from other harmful chemicals.

How do you clean a Nalgene bottle?

Bottles made by Nalgene are dishwasher safe, so they are easy to keep clean. Simple place on the top rack of the dishwasher and run a standard cycle. Do not place on the bottom rack before first removing the lid from around the bottle's neck, as it can get caught in the rack or melt. If you prefer to wash your bottle by hand, use hot, soapy water. Make sure to wash the inside and outside of the bottle thoroughly, and don't forget about the threads on the neck and inside the cap, where particles and germs can get caught. The wide mouth bottles can be cleaned with a sponge, but for bottles with narrow mouths, a bottle brush should be used to reach down to the bottom.
