Video Game Trading Cards to Bring the Fun Off the Screen

For most gaming enthusiasts, a trading card game is fairly easy to understand. However, for anyone new to the gaming or the world of card trading, the basics of what to buy, trade, and sell can be a larger task. Fortunately, the Metal Gear Solid series works like any other one and is based on value, demand, and functionality.

What Is the MGS series?

  • Metal Gear Solid, or MGS, is a video game series designed by creator Hideo Kojima from Japan and released by Konami. Known for its stealth-focused gameplay, it falls under the action-adventure genre.
  • As the series is specifically designed as a "stealth" game, this means players move and hide to remain undetected as the strategy to win. Therefore, this platform often involves ninjas, rogues, and assassins.
  • The Metal Gear Solid franchise requires players to use mental strategy and stamina to focus on avoiding combat or the "ghosting" aspect, which means to remain undetected.

What Types of Cards Are Available?

  • There are three particular types that collectors should look out for. For example, the MGS solid V cards are connected to a sub-series called the Phantom Pain.
  • Another type is the foil, which is generally more expensive than regular ones because they are considered rarer. Essentially though, the main difference is that these can be made into foil badges.
  • Those labeled platinum usually feature age and notoriety and often come in a bundled pack. When playing the game, players use dice, a play mat, card sleeves, and even counting aids.

What Are Some Key Names of the Cards?

  • As many seasoned traders know, different series also have different names or titles. As an example, a more primitive, or basic card pack, is known as a base card. Some of these on the market can come in packets or boxes for packaging.
  • Another example name is the boss card. Essentially, this often just means the card is more useful in the game.
  • Other known names are the snake and silver. A snake card is designed with snake-like backing and considered a rare find. Silver refers to anything being traded that came from what is known as the silver age. This was the time of the 50s to 70s that followed the Golden Age of comics. Any cards marked as this are considered rare from that period too.
