History of GoPro

2004 - The first GoPro 35mm Hero was placed up for sale at the Action Sports Retailer trade show in San Diego.

2006 - GoPro's first digital camera arrived, the Digital HERO, with 10 seconds of video, 640x640 still photos, and 32 MB of memory.

2010 - GoPro entered the HD arena with the Hero HD, providing 25/30 frames per second of full 1080p video.

2011 - Extreme sports fans needed a high-frame-rate camera to capture stunts, and GoPro delivered with the HD Hero2. 960p HD was available at 48 FPS and 720p at 60 FPS.

2012 - The HERO3 provided the option of using a smaller, lighter GoPro camera. It also had a smaller battery that required more frequent recharges. White, Silver, and Black models were released. The Black model could record 4K video at 15 FPS or 2.7K at 30 FPS.

2013 - GoPro improved the battery life for the Black and Silver HERO3+. There were also improved waterproof enclosures and better performance under low-light conditions.

2014 - GoPro took a huge leap forward with the HERO4 Black and Silver editions. With twice the processor power and twice the speed, it was capable of recording 4K at 30 FPS and 1080p at 120 FPS. The Black also featured Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connections and much-improved audio.

The Silver edition introduced the first touch display to enable easy control of the camera, from framing shots to recording and playback functions. It captured 1080p at 60 FPS and 720p at 120 FPS.

2016 - The HERO5 Session introduced an amazing capture rate of 4K video at 60 FPS. This smaller-framed camera also featured image stabilization. It was designed specifically to be mounted almost anywhere. The larger HERO5 Black was available with a touchscreen. The Karma, a quadcopter drone, also made its appearance in October.

2017 - The HERO6 Black arrived with improved image stabilization and captured 4K video at 60 FPS, with 2.7K at 120 FPS and 1080p at 240 FPS. Wi-Fi speed is tripled compared with previous models.
